Is Surgery Needed?

What are common signs your pet may have a torn cruciate?

A cruciate injury can cause limping, stiffness, and difficulty bearing weight. Recognizing the symptoms early can help prevent long-term pain and arthritis.

  • Limping or favoring one leg may indicate a cruciate tear.

  • Sudden difficulty standing, walking, or jumping is a common sign.

  • A stiff or swollen knee could mean joint instability.

  • Intermittent limping that worsens with activity may signal a partial tear.

Importance of Proper Care

Why does surgical repair matter?

A torn cruciate ligament won’t heal on its own. Surgical repair is the most effective way to restore stability and get your dog moving comfortably again.

  • A torn ligament won’t heal with rest alone

Without surgical stabilization, the knee remains unstable, leading to pain and long-term joint damage.

  • Delaying treatment can make things worse

Over time, untreated tears cause cartilage wear, arthritis, and strain on the opposite leg.

  • Surgery improves stability and reduces pain

Proper repair restores your dog’s ability to walk, run, and play—without discomfort.

My dog Roxy had patella surgery and it was the best decision we made for her to have it. She had stopped moving a few months prior; it was obvious she was in pain. She is a small dog, so we were fortunate Dr. Ally and Dr Pilgeram took on her case. The surgery was a success and within a couple of days she was back up and moving, putting weight on her leg with ease. It has been two weeks, and you would have never have known she had surgery, she is doing great!

I was very happy with my experience here. They did the surgery less than a week after calling and were extremely good on the follow ups. Now my pup is up and running around on all four legs again!

Can’t thank you guys enough I have my dog back. It was a long eight weeks, but it was so worth it. She’s back to swimming and playing and being herself.

Dr. Alley and the crew were wonderful with Zeus. Their instructions, and responses when I had questions after surgery, were quick and thorough. Zeus is making a splendid recovery.

We are incredibly grateful for the quality of care we received to a very important member of our family. The procedure as well as the follow-up was amazing. The smooth recovery is thanks to the the great care. We are grateful.

They took excellent care of our girl Penelope. Her surgery went great and she has healed perfectly. We just had her last xray and vet visit and they said she has healed incredibly well. She is a bigger breed and weighs 125 lbs. They handled her perfectly. We are so happy with the results and the service we received. Thank you so much taking care of our girl❤️

This was the best experience I could have asked for in the situation. We were able to schedule our appointment within a week of diagnosis, this was amazing as most places were 5 weeks out plus. All my questions were answered even after hours. Expectations for recovery were clear and easy to follow. My Miss Penny is back to playing, running and being her happy little self.

Dr. Alley performed the TTA surgery on our 9 year old chocolate lab, Nala. We (and Nala) could not be more pleased with the outcome. Two months post-op, she seems totally restored to her old athletic self. Amazing results!
